Castlewood Canyon Newborn Creek Session

Ashley and her crew were so beautiful to hang out with during this newborn session to celebrate baby Drew (and Ashley!) in the creek at Castlewood Canyon. If you venture just a little bit farther downstream there is a beautiful part of the creek that is perfect for splashing and exploring, without feeling too overwhelmed with littles in/near the water. Easy enough to get to for this new mama while carrying her newborn and her small boys. This is just the second time I have used this location and I can already tell it will be one I will travel to often in the years to come. I’m okay with that.

Baby Drew was a few weeks old during our time together. Colorado weather kept doing its thing and we had to change our date a few times. By the time we met, Ashely and her crew were in a beautiful groove with their new family member. The dance of being a new parent is one I think we quickly forget. It is a mesmerizing flow of love and trust, sacrifice and selflessness, empathy and humility. It is a gift to be able to watch families grow and transform from their small nests, to place roots like trees in the ground and become sturdy forms, strong in the winds of the world. Growing those little babes into strong, just, tolerant people is hard work. Ashley and Bryan you guys are doing it right.

I loved our time together in the canyon. Ashley, her boys, and their sweet Golden, Sadie, put in the steps with me and we created a gallery they can cherish forever. I would love to connect with you and your family, in whatever stage that looks like, to document the moments that matter to you. Be it a quiet creek or a vast mountain side, I promise, I will be there, ready to make time stop and show you that love you hold in your hearts for each other.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park Newborn Session

The family session that was two years in the making. That’s what you are seeing here. Gerald and his family had seen my work long ago, when Gerald’s son Lucas and his mama, Soraya, would hang out with me each year. They lived in the midwest and being so, we didn’t quite get the chance to connect. A few years back Soraya, purchased a gift certificate (yes, I have those!) for Lucas’ dad. Fast forward a few years, they moved here AND had a sweet baby girl. It was fate that our paths did not cross until this very moment. Getting to this moment was like a careful dance. Reschedules dues to COVID, colds, and the weather. It was meant to be on this day. Perfectly beautiful in all the ways. The universe provides.

This is the first time I have worked with a blended family like this. Seeing my little friend, Lucas with his mom and now with his dad, it’s a beautiful thing to take part in. To see the people that sculpt his mind into one that is always curious, inquisitive, respectful, and kind. Co-parenting at its finest, friends. You can see the love that Kayla (his bonus mama) has for Lucas and it reminds me of the love I have for my husband’s children. The kind of love that is so big it hurts in a good way. Kayla and I were chatting about date nights and she said the only person she feels okay with leaving baby girl with right now is Lucas’ mama. How sweet is that? Soraya, I see what happens when you aren’t there mama, trust me when I say, he’s in the best hands.

I cannot wait to see your family grow Gerald and, Soraya, Lucas sure looks a lot like you in these photos. Thank you for trusting me all these years to provide you with tangible proof that you were there, in the thick of motherhood. Gerald, I am forever grateful that you have placed your trust in me too. No longer an “admirer from afar”, I got to hold your baby and I still can’t get over how sweet she is. Eeee!! It’s secretly my favorite part of newborn sessions. I’m like, “this is how we do the couples portraits” but really I just want to snuggle the babe. Ya’ll looked cute though so it works. ha.

I can feel that summer is trying to peek through the clouds and cold days friends. I cannot wait for everything it has in store. I have so many new and seasoned families and couples on the books this year already and I am stoked to get to hang out with them all. I do still have limited availability for summer sessions so it’s been on your mind, be sure to reach out soon so we can start our journey together. I want to be the person that you can rely on to document the messy, the love, the real real.

Support Your Community with Small Sessions in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs Small Sessions are open! This year I am offering an indoor and an outdoor option for Spring Small Sessions. Small Sessions is another way of saying Micro or Mini sessions but I took a note from my friend Jocelyn Collins (hey babe!) and are calling them small sessions this year because it’s fun!

For the indoor sessions, we will hang out at Cultivate Studios in Old Colorado City and for the outdoor sessions, we will adventure in an urban creek located in South Springs. Yes, that means we don’t have to travel into the mountain and it won’t be (as) freezing.

Small Sessions are taking place both April 29th and 30th. Read the post for all the details and to book. See you there babes!

Colorado Springs Small Sessions + Community

We can hang out at Cultivate Studios in Old Colorado City snuggling up on your babes during the day or…..

We can hang out at an urban creek around sunset getting dirty (and looking pretty). You pick, friend. I’ll be there.

Not only will you be there too, you’ll also be supporting the Success Collective in Colorado Springs’ endeavor to provide feminine hygiene products and undergarments for homeless women in need when you book your small session.

For EVERY small session booked, Wild Prairie Photography will donate $50 to the Success Collective of Colorado Springs to help them reach their goal of 100,000 items this year, which will fully supply our local Colorado Springs homeless women friends with the products they need to keep clean and comfortable for one year. Pretty rad, right?

You can learn more about the Colorado Springs chapter of the Success Collective on their Facebook Page and also check out the organization as a whole on their website.

The Location Details

Indoor Studio Spring Small Sessions are held at Cultivate Studios in Old Colorado City. Their new street-level studio is open and wow, is it pretty. There are plants galore, a soft squishy bed to lounge (or jump on), several couches and chairs we can utilize (including a beautiful wicker egg chair), and plenty of space for you and your loves to relax.

Think authentic connection in a temperature-controlled environment, perfect for those new babes, small babes, or friends who just aren’t into going outside quite yet with the weather.

Outdoor Creek Small Sessions are held at an urban creek in south Colorado Springs. This location is one I have been seeking since I moved to Colorado and when I found it, I jumped around like a kid (ask my son, he was with me). Location scouting is something that I love to do and when it pays off, it’s amazing. This location is a guarantee to get wet as we cross a low stream to get to the prime spots.

Full details and tips to make the most of this location are shared prior to your session.

Three Reasons You Should Book Your Maternity and Newborn Sessions Together

Erin and Bobby met with me for both their maternity and their newborn sessions. We explored Cheyenne Canyon for their maternity session and then snuggled up in their home for my time with baby Sawyer. I love working with clients through their life stories. Engagement, wedding, maternity, newborn, family, and then back through the cycle with each new babe. Seeing their family change and grow. From being madly in love to seeing how amazing your partner is at growing a whole person (and an organ, thank you), to holding that babe in your arms, to chasing them around on the mountainside, I want to be there for it all. I want to build that relationship with you. It’s not just about photography. It’s about your heart (and mine).

Let me tell you a story about this girl. This sweet mama here. She booked her newborn session with me and I was so excited to see babe when they arrived. Fast forward to a few months after she booked the newborn session, her husband, Bobby, reached out to me. Turns out Erin tried to take her own maternity photos and it just wasn’t what she envisioned. Bobby wanted to know if I could sneak them in last minute. Yasssssssss is almost always my answer when its past clients (I also did their couples photos) AND babies are involved because I love them so.

Bobby let me know that he wanted to surprise Erin with this session and we met up at a Starbucks and he picked up a gift card. Fast forward to our session, Erin got to wear a beautiful dress I had just picked up from Reclamation Design and she wore it like a damn queen with that mama's belly and her gorgeous hair (I am just a tad jealous). It was nice to catch up with them both during this time together and also via their video call to prepare to come to their home for their newborn session. All of the extra time together just made it that much more special and natural for me when sweet Sawyer arrived.

Okay, I did say I would give ya’ll three reasons you should book your maternity and newborn session together….here they are:

  1. You get to foster a relationship with someone who is going to be getting pretty intimate with you during your newborn session. It is so nice to be able to get to know them beforehand (it’s nice for me to get to know you too!!)

  2. You can be confident that you will get the same quality of service and the same style of images from your photographer. Hello, super pretty wall art spreads!

  3. You get a discount! When you book your sessions together, the photographer most likely will offer you a discount (I do, you can request a proposal below to check out the details).

Super easy list of some things you might not think matter but I promise, connecting with the person who is documenting your connection is the best way to get those “feel good” images that evoke emotion and depth in your soul. I would love to work through your life journey with you. Want to share those moments with me so I can give them back to you in a gallery you will love? Let’s connect!

Maternity and Newborn Sessions Document Your Growing Family

Hanging out with families for both their maternity and newborn sessions is such a sweet thing for me. I get to follow along with your pregnancy journey and document that sweet love right from the start. Andrea and her family met me last year during my fall mini sessions. Their little boy Findlay was shy to start but I found a way to break through to his tender heart. Look at him now, a big brother.

When families book me for both their maternity and their newborn session, I love to give a discount on both sessions. It is my way of saying thank you for wanting to work with me through the seasons in your life. Rewarding in my heart of hearts, when those sweet babes are born, it is magic.

Rocky Mountain Newborn In Home Photography Session

This sweet in-home newborn session was just what I needed last week. I had been waiting to meet Miss Liv for weeks as we needed to postpone their first scheduled session to allow this sweet girl to acclimate to her home at high elevation. I was so excited to hear that I was finally able to make the journey up to their Colorado mountain home and hang out with them and their sweet baby girl.

Canyons, mountain views, trees, water, and boulder areas pepper the lands around where Laura and David live, and I was in awe. My drive up and through the mountain also included cutting through one of the many burn scars left in our Colorado forest from recent wildfires. It was a quiet two-hour ride and it allowed me to reflect on many things as our minds tend to let us do when we are by ourselves wandering.

I love what I do. Truly and fully. I feel grateful to be allowed to enter into my clients’ lives and learn their stories. To adventure with them in the mountains and watch as they cuddle their little ones tight and squeal with laughter. Photographs are powerful mementos that show you proof, you were there. Mama that doesn’t get in the frame, you were there too. Let me give you something that you can tuck into your heart forever.

When you choose me to be your photographer, I want you to know, you are giving me the best gift anyone ever could. Trust and love. Soulfulness and joy. You fill my life with all the good things in the world and it feels good to know I have people like that around me and on my side.

In Home Family Newborn Session in Southern Colorado

This is my second time hanging out with Miss Addison, her mama, and her daddy. This time, however, she got to introduce me to her new baby brother, Hudson. I traveled down to Canon City, Colorado to document in their home now that Hudson had arrived with a Lifestyle Newborn Session.

When I walked up to their home, I knew I wanted to grab an item from nature nearby to incorporate into the session. I asked Sarah for some scissors and snipped a few branches from their pine tree in the front yard. I could hear Addison inside talking and when they opened the door she was very excited to show me around her home.

When I arrive at a client’s home for their newborn session, I love to look around in all the rooms to find the best light. I might move things around as I did for this session in order to harness that beautiful light in the pockets I find. Don’t worry if you feel like your home doesn’t have “great light” like Sarah tried telling me. Girl! Your home has beautiful light in all the right places, so stop that noise right now! 🖤

Trusting me to come into your home is a big deal. I want to make sure that you know how much I appreciate your comfortability with me and also appreciate the authentic love I see between you and your people in your own space. Growing a family is special business. Family is what connects the world and keeps it going. Moments like these will forever be the pinnacles on which life stands.

Want to have me come hang out with you and your crew too? You can check out information on my newborn session via the button below. Come say hi!

Travel Lifestyle Newborn Session in Arkansas with Colorado Photographer

I was lucky enough to travel to Arkansas and spend time with this sweet family to document their new baby boy, Knight with an in-home newborn session. David and Shereka were so welcoming when I arrived at their home. They let me do my thing by finding great little pockets of light throughout their home and I think that the spots I found worked perfectly for this session.

Their home was quite dark with little natural light access. I found some light by their backdoor out of their bedroom and also in a bathroom by the window, a lovely spot in one of their older sons’ rooms that I could use, as well as a nice shaded area between their garage and house. I moved around some furniture and set it up for making use of the light that I had. It was perfect.

Why am I telling you all of this? I want you to see that even if you don’t feel that your home will do well for a newborn session, I can help find those sweet spots and have the end results look just as amazing as these images here. For those first few images, we are snuggled up against the backdoor you see if that slideshow image above this text. I used that natural light to highlight mama and babe and the bedroom in the background is turned into an afterthought with the dark lighting. We will make it work, no matter what we are working with. Promise.

Have you been pondering a newborn session? Don’t feel like you can’t have one because of your space or available light. Let me take care of that for you! Don’t worry about it and just let all that stress go and focus on letting me capture some of these beautiful moments that you’ll want to remember. Talk soon!

Newborn Session at Ute Valley Park

Have you ever met someone you didn’t know that just made your heart soar? This family does that to me. Sweetness to the core. Tiffany reached out to have her sweet boy Liam and her family documented. Liam had a hard landing into life and Tiff and Cam wanted to celebrate their sweet boy by documenting their first family photos.

Tiff is wearing one of my client closet dresses, my favorite one in fact. It allows the freedom of the wind to blow and create movement and feminine grace in her images with her son. Shortly into our time together, sweet Liam wanted to nurse. It was so enjoyable for me to spend time with Tiff, Cam, and Liam as Tiff gave the tiny human she held in her arms nourishment from her own body. How amazing are women that we can not only grow a person but an entirely new organ and THEN keep them alive, well-fed, with nothing more than what we already have?

This was the first outdoor newborn session that I have ever done and I will say, I truly enjoyed it. The freeness and authenticity of the mountains and air. It was magnificent and I look forward to creating more with newborns and their families in our beautiful Colorado spaces. Colorado Springs In Home Newborn Session

I got to work with Lauran and Colt for their maternity session. We traveled up a crazy rough dirt road to get to an amazing spot. We got to adventure in the mountains together. When River was born, they invited me in their home to spend time with them in their element. Their home was quiet and inviting. Such sweet humans, I could feel the vibe. Calm, ever so in love with this girl they created.

This sweet girl was ten years on the making. Lauran and Colt finally got their little girl in October and she is everything they could have dreamed of. Their authentic love for Miss River makes my heart tug in all the good place. Thank you, mama, for allowing me to follow your pregnancy journey and then meet this beautiful daughter of yours.

Here are some of my favorites from my time in their home. I cannot wait to watch River grow into a lovely young lady and Lauran and Colt growing as parents.

Fort Collins In Home Newborn Session

Being a twin mama is special. I know because I am also a twin mama. Though I didn’t birth my two beautiful babies myself, I thank their mama for doing that hard work for me. With the marriage to my wonderful husband, brought three bonus kiddos into my life, Ethan, Emma, and Jack.

Like Emma and Jack, Clara and Henry get to grow up together. Built-in best friends from the start. Growing together in their mother’s womb, they have known and will continue to know each other as no one else can. Mallory, you are a rock star. Brian, you are that hands-on dad that women need in their lives after the birth of their babe, and in this case, babes. Give yourselves both a huge hug and pat on the back for me. Twins are double the trouble, diapers, feeding, waking up, and just everything. You are doing it with grace and love.

Mallory and Brian live up near Fort Collins and I am located down in Colorado Springs. The day before their session, the Denver traffic worry got to me. Would I make it to our appointment on time? Would I get stuck in traffic? Would there be car issues? All of it started to weigh down on me. I reached out to Mallory and let her know I was going to stay the night in a nearby hotel that evening so I could be there, and be on time. Without missing a beat, she so selflessly offered to cover my stay at the hotel. I have never had anyone offer to do that and I was beside myself. What a kind and gracious thing even though she will tell me a million times over, “ it was nothing”. It might have been nothing to you, but your act was amazing and it totally made my evening. I truly appreciated it. Truly.

Mallory and Brian warmly welcomed me into their home. The babies were nestled in their little pillows fast asleep. We chatted like old friends and then we started their session. Those babes. So perfect. So sweetly sleeping. Mallory, a gentle mother, and Brian, a proud and doting father. It was lovely and I am so glad I got to take part in these first days they shared with their two sweet loves.

My clients usually become my friends and then they soon, with the help of social media, and the insight I can see into their lives, become more like family than anything else. I love that about my job. It’s more than just taking photos. They trust me, fully, to come into their lives and document those moments for them so they can also be in the frame. To say, “yes, I was there”. It is very special to me in the most profound way and I am thankful for them. They are what makes my business what it is. A gem in my heart. The release of stress from the world. A peek into the lives of so many and I cherish it.

There is something special about being second-born. You have a built-in playmate. A friend for life. That is what Rhett can provide, even at such a young age. Someone for Ray to always look up to, his big brother. To get into trouble with, to pick flowers with for mama. To hatch secret plans and complete crazy antics with.

Colorado Springs In Home Lifestyle Newborn Session

What a sweet boy. Baby Ray.

Babies are so small and depend on their family right from the moment they are conceived to protect and care for them. Mother’s carry them in their womb and nourish their bodies until they are ready to come earthside where that care and love continues on.

I grew up without siblings in my home. I feel like I missed out on what that feels like, so I can only guess. My children have siblings and I am thankful that, like baby Ray, they get to experience unending love (and a little bit of mischief) from those that are the closest to them.

Sibling love. There is nothing quite like it.

I met with Ray’s mama and daddy (and big brother Rhett too!) when Ray was still growing big and strong inside of his mother’s womb. I got to know their family and who they are before coming into their home space and visiting with Ray for the first time. It was special to be given that gift and trust by his mama. Thank you, Stephanie. I appreciate you.

Here are some of my favorites from our time together with your sweet boy. Enjoy mama.

Mountain View Maternity Session in Colorado Springs

Mallory and Brian decided they would book me for both their maternity and newborn session. I offer a bundle for parents who want to stick with the same photographer for both sessions. My maternity sessions are like what you see here. Natural light, outdoors, and full of that Colorado beauty. For my newborn sessions, I offer in-home lifestyle sessions. This means nearly no posing of you or baby and documenting you in your space right now. New mama. Loving on that sweet babe with your tired arms and eyes but your heart so full of love you almost didn’t know you could love that much. I’ll be there for it. Let me journey with you?

Colorado Springs Sunset Twin Maternity Session

Mallory was referred to me by the beautiful Amy Aragundi and her and her honey drove all the way down from Denver to meet with me to document their pregnancy of their boy/girl twins. This session is super special to me because I have boy/girl twins of my own. Though I didn’t birth them, they are 100% mine in my heart and I love everything about this journey Mallory and Brian are about to embark on.

I feel extra lucky because these beautiful humans were nothing but gracious and kind to me during our time together. I get to continue that journey when I visit their home near the end of the month to document those two tiny humans when they arrive. I can think of nothing better to do with a morning. Two babes? In my new beautiful Moses basket? Yes, please.

Janine and her family were so kind to allow me to come into their home just days after sweet Mia was born. Their connection was palpable and their adventurous spirit was alive. Baby Mia will grow up in a home filled with genuine connection and love, there is nothing better that I can think of. Janine, thank you for trusting me to document this celebration of life with your baby girl. Girl, you guys are so beautiful.

Newborn In Home Session with the Mullins Family

I made a few goals at the beginning of the year. One of which was to photograph more in-home newborn sessions. Particularly ones with older siblings. 2020 opened right out of the gate with this beautifully crafted in-home session to celebrate the birth of Baby Mia. Big brothers Liam and Bro bro were clearly smitten with their new baby sister. One of my favorite images from our time together is one where Liam is looking at his little brother who is looking at their baby sister. You can see in Liams eyes and his smile that, even if he doesn’t know it or understand it yet, he is proud of his little brother. He finally gets to be a big brother too. So darn sweet.

Colorado Springs Newborn Photographer Williams Family Welcomes Baby K

It was just a few short days after Colorado Springs endured a blizzard and the side roads were still partly covered in ice that I made my way to the cozy home of Kristen and Mark to meet their sweet baby, Mr. K. Born at St. Francis Medical Center the week prior, the family was settling into their new routine. I was invited to document the love that was abound. Upon arriving, Kristens dad, Grandpa Dean, welcomed me inside and I could tell this session would be one for the books. Lovely light, lovely family and the sweetest, most perfect boy. The Williams’ home was warm and full of the kind of love you look for in story books.

On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.

The Williams’ home was warm and full of the kind of love you look for in story books. Calmly, Kristen and Mark cradled their sweet son and you could just see the love radiate from their souls. Moose, their ever so much loved cat, was never too far behind as we moved from room to room in their home. She was curious who this person was taking photos of her boy. Ever watchful and protective.

I was so excited to get back home and edit the images of the love I witnessed. Eager to share with them what I see when I look at them. Overjoyed with love and peace, I said a goodbye to the family and made the journey back to my computer to bring their story to life. The story of a beautiful and perfect baby boy.
